Description
The Switchboard Operator will manage and maintain the base telephone exchange by handling incoming and outgoing calls, transferring communications to appropriate personnel or divisions, and providing information to clients. The role involves maintaining accurate records of all calls, ensuring efficient communication flow, and supporting the overall functioning of the unit’s communication systems.

Responsibilities
- Manage the telephone exchange system within the base area.
- Handle incoming and outgoing calls, transferring them to appropriate divisions or personnel.
- Take and relay messages promptly and accurately.
- Provide information and assistance to clients and staff.
- Keep detailed records of outgoing and international calls.
- Connect and manage international lines and issue telephone accounts.
- Maintain and update the telephone database.
- Allocate pin codes when authorized.
- Identify and report telephone faults.
- Participate in planning of leave schedules and provide switchboard training when required.
Requirements
- Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or equivalent.
- Experience in switchboard operations or telecommunications (advantageous).
