Job Description

The Department of Civilian Secretariat for Police Service is looking for an Accounting Clerk to provide financial accounting, bookkeeping, salary administration and internal control support services in Pretoria.

Responsibilities

• Render financial accounting transactions.
• Receive invoices and check them for correctness, verification and approval.
• Process invoices and capture payments.
• Perform salary administration support services.
• Receive salary advices and check them for correctness.
• Capture salaries, bonuses, salary adjustments and deductions.
• File financial and supporting documents.
• Perform bookkeeping support services.
• Capture all financial transactions.
• Clear suspense accounts.
• Record debtors and creditors.
• Process electronic banking transactions and compile journals.
• Render internal control services.
• Perform activities aimed at improving the completeness and accuracy of the payments control environment.
• Assist in identifying control mechanisms to reduce possible non-compliance.
• Develop, update and maintain an effective filing system and system controls for the Directorate.

Requirements

• Grade 12 certificate or equivalent.
• Basic knowledge of financial functions.
• Ability to capture data.
• Ability to collate financial statistics.
• Basic knowledge of public financial legislation, procedures and Treasury Regulations.
• Knowledge of basic financial operating systems such as PERSAL, BAS and LOGIS.
• Knowledge of working procedures within the relevant working environment.
• Understanding of the legislative framework governing the Public Service.
