Description

Dis-Chem Pharmacies Limited requires a Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant for its Krugersdorp store.

The position provides pharmaceutical care by assisting with patients’ medicine-related needs and supporting dispensing, medicine preparation, stock control and medical-aid administration processes.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines or scheduled substances.
• Assist with compounding, manipulating or preparing non-sterile medicines or scheduled substances according to approved formulas and standard operating procedures.
• Assist with manufacturing non-sterile medicines or scheduled substances according to approved formulas and procedures.
• Assist with repackaging medicine.
• Assist with distributing and controlling stock of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines or scheduled substances.
• Assist with ordering medicines and scheduled substances up to Schedule 6 when instructed by an authorised person.
• Assist with reading and preparing prescriptions.
• Assist with selecting, manipulating or compounding prescribed medicines.
• Assist with labelling and supplying medicines after interpretation and evaluation of the prescription by a pharmacist.
• Interpret scripts accurately and work within SAPC legal requirements.
• Capture prescription details accurately.
• Verify patient details on the system.
• Pick, pack, label and check medication accurately.
• Remain aware of common dosages and important drug interactions.
• Give patients accurate instructions regarding the correct use of supplied medicine.
• Remain informed about changes to medical-aid procedures and dispensing-claim requirements.
• Ensure medication is checked for accuracy and signed by a pharmacist.
• Advise and assist patients at the dispensary, self-medication area and front shop.
• Follow up with patients regarding script-tracking reports and appointments.
• Explain medical-aid costs to patients.
• Provide information that promotes health.
• Process paperwork required for the accurate submission of medical-aid claims.
• Correct errors on prescriptions rejected by medical aids.
• Ensure authorisation of chronic, HIV and AIDS, and oncology medication.
• Maintain customer profiles on the system.
• Merge customer profiles locally and notify UCS when profiles must be merged centrally.
• Review messages on customer profiles and take appropriate action.
• Report low stock, out-of-stock levels and stock errors to the Dispensary Manager.
• Receive dispensary stock according to Dis-Chem standard operating procedures.
• Merchandise stock according to the First Expired, First Out principle.
• Facilitate biannual stocktakes.
• Exercise stock, cash and asset control.

Requirements

• Grade 12 or Matric.
• Basic Pharmacist Assistance qualification.
• Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council.
• Working experience with Unisolv.
• Computer literacy in Microsoft Office.
• Sound numerical skills.
• Strong command of English and a second language.
• Willingness and ability to work retail hours.
• Physical fitness and ability to stand for extended periods.
• A valid driver’s licence.
• Clear credit and criminal records.

The following will be advantageous:
