The Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) operates within the public sector as an independent constitutional body in South Africa. Its mandate is to promote, protect, monitor, and evaluate gender equality in alignment with the principles outlined in Chapter 9 of the South African Constitution. This includes monitoring government, private sector, and societal policies; investigating gender-based complaints; conducting research; and fostering public education about gender equality. The CGE engages in legislative reviews, policy evaluations, and advocacy to promote equitable practices across all sectors of society. It also ensures South Africa's compliance with international gender equality conventions and treaties
