The DMPR is a national government department in South Africa tasked with regulating and promoting the sustainable development of the country’s mineral and petroleum resources. Operating within the public sector, its mandate covers the mining, petroleum, diamonds, precious stones, and geosciences industries, ensuring South Africans benefit equitably from these natural resources. The DMPR emerged in mid‑2024 following the split of the former Department of Mineral Resources and Energy into two focused entities.
