Job Description
The Department of Agriculture is inviting applications for the Agrarian Reform Specialist position in Pretoria, Gauteng.
This opportunity falls under the Directorate: Small-Holder Farmers Support and is suited to a candidate with relevant agriculture, food security, and developmental research experience.
The successful candidate will help design, coordinate, implement, monitor, and evaluate food security and smallholder development programmes across the country.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate the design of programmes for food security and smallholder development.
- Coordinate the identification and design of food security and smallholder development programmes across the country and the value chain.
- Conduct needs analysis for food security programmes and smallholder producers across the country.
- Coordinate the implementation of food security and smallholder development programmes.
- Interact with provinces, districts, and local municipalities to support implementation.
- Provide advisory services on food security and smallholder development programmes.
- Facilitate the implementation of food security policies and frameworks for smallholder producers.
- Monitor and evaluate food security programmes in the provinces.
- Monitor the progress of smallholder producers funded by departmental and other programmes.
- Ensure alignment of departmental plans, programmes, and projects in the provinces.
- Identify risks and challenges in the implementation of support for food security and smallholder development producers.
- Provide inputs into the development of guidelines for food security and smallholder development programmes.
- Facilitate and coordinate analytical and synthesized reports.
Requirements
- Grade 12 Certificate.
- Degree in Agriculture (NQF Level 7).
- Minimum of 2 years relevant experience in agriculture economics, food security, or developmental research.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Willingness to work extended hours.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of food security policies, strategies, and programmes.
- Knowledge of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).
- Knowledge of project management.
