ADvTECH / IIE Rosebank International is hiring an ICT Intern based in Pretoria, Gauteng.

The Independent Institute of Education, Rosebank International, is part of the ADvTECH Group, Africa’s leading private education provider.

The overall purpose of the role is to provide desktop support by installing hardware, software applications, and operating systems, as well as troubleshooting software and operating system issues or repairing hardware for staff at Rosebank College campuses.

The role also supports professional learning and development in a practical IT support environment.

Responsibilities

Level 1 Desktop Support

• Gather user information such as computer system name, screen name, report name, error messages, warning messages, or log files.
• Analyse information technology issues to identify the underlying problem.
• Identify what the user is trying to accomplish.
• Use a knowledge management tool that may include troubleshooting methods.
• Uninstall or reinstall basic software applications after identifying the IT issue.

Software Installations

• Check that necessary system requirements are met before installing software.
• Check for existing versions of the software.
• Select operating system components that need to be installed for users.
• Check whether device drivers and plug-ins have been installed on the user’s computer or laptop.
• Create or update programme folders and files.
• Add configuration data such as configuration files, Windows registry entries, or environment variables.
• Make software accessible to the user by creating links, shortcuts, or bookmarks.
• Configure components that run automatically, such as daemons or Windows services.
• Liaise with First and Second Line Managers to activate products or assign usernames and passwords.

Hardware Installations

• Install hardware according to the company’s standard operating procedure modules.

Continuous Professional Development

• Increase knowledge of information technology by learning problem-solving and technical skills from First and Second Line Managers.
• Learn through working in a practical environment and dealing with real problems experienced by users.

Requirements

• Certificate or Diploma in Information Technology.
• Degree in Information Technology is ideal.
• Clean criminal record.
• Knowledge of standard operating systems.
• Knowledge of IT policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of the ADvTECH Group IT Framework.
• Working within a team: 1 year.
