Toys R Us and Babies R Us South Africa is recruiting a Shop Assistant for its Rosebank store in Johannesburg.

The purpose of the position is to maximise sales by delivering excellent customer service and creating a positive shopping experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide customers with professional and helpful service.
• Attend to the individual shopping needs of each customer.
• Place customers first during all interactions.
• Provide prompt and relevant assistance on the sales floor.
• Assist customers by telephone.
• Follow the company’s customer-service standards.
• Determine customers’ product requirements.
• Advise customers about product ranges, prices and warranties.
• Demonstrate and explain products.
• Recommend suitable products to customers.
• Sell products and services.
• Identify opportunities for additional sales.
• Ensure products are correctly priced.
• Ensure products are displayed correctly.
• Execute promotions within the required timeframes.
• Plan promotional execution in advance.
• Follow merchandising and store-layout requirements.
• Maintain housekeeping standards and schedules.
• Prepare and implement advertised sales promotions.
• Maintain promotional displays.
• Report fast-selling and slow-selling products to the Store Manager.
• Participate in stocktakes and stock counts.
• Help minimise stock losses.
• Help control expenses within the assigned area.
• Work towards maximising sales.
• Protect company assets within the assigned area.
• Complete other relevant duties requested by senior management.
• Attend mandatory and service-related training.
• Maintain the confidentiality of company information.
• Participate in performance appraisals and personal-development reviews.
• Remain informed about current standard operating procedures.
• Support the introduction of new technology and working methods.

Requirements

• Matric Certificate.
• Six months of retail experience.
• Own or reliable transport.
• Availability to work shifts.
• Willingness to complete mandatory and service training.
• Ability to follow company policies, procedures and operational standards.
