Description

The Eastern Cape Department of Health is recruiting a Ward Administration Clerk at Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital in the OR Tambo District.

The position is responsible for providing ward administration services, monitoring ward stock, maintaining documents and files, and performing routine clerical duties.

Responsibilities

• Compile patient folders containing the relevant documentation.
• Record and reconcile the midnight patient census.
• Account for patient admissions, discharges and transfers.
• Keep ward notice boards neat, relevant and current.
• Capture statistical data.
• Monitor ward stock levels.
• Order and receive ward supplies, including stationery and surgical supplies.
• Replace condemned ward stock.
• Record the movement of ward stock and supplies.
• Keep files neat and complete.
• File correspondence.
• Trace the movement of files.
• Place files into archives according to the correct category and location.
• Make photocopies.
• Compile duty rosters and submit them to Human Resources.
• Make transport arrangements for the transfer of patients.
• Answer ward telephone calls.

Requirements

• A National Senior Certificate or NQF Level 4 qualification.
• No experience is required.
• One year of public-service internship programme experience will be given preference.
• Previous administration experience in a hospital environment will be an added advantage.
• Basic knowledge of administration processes.
• Knowledge of the Batho Pele principles.
• Knowledge of the Patients’ Rights Charter.
• A good understanding of general administration.
• An understanding of confidentiality.
