Dis-Chem Pharmacies’ is offering an entry-level Dispensary Support opportunity for candidates who want to build a career in the pharmaceutical and dispensary environment. This fixed-term role is intended for learners who are capable of completing the Basic Pharmacist Assistant learning path and gaining the practical workplace exposure required for growth in pharmacy support services.

The programme is designed to provide on-the-job learning in key areas of the dispensary environment, including medication handling, stock support, patient service, script processing, and compliance with pharmacy procedures. Successful candidates will work under the direct supervision of a pharmacist while developing the knowledge, discipline, and professional conduct required in this field.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 medicines or scheduled substances under direct pharmacist supervision
• Support the compounding, manipulation, or preparation of non-sterile medicines according to approved formulas and standard operating procedures
• Assist with unpacking and merchandising dispensary stock
• Maintain cleanliness and organisation of dispensary and OTC shelves
• Learn to interpret prescriptions accurately and act within legal and professional pharmacy requirements
• Assist with the accurate picking, packing, labelling, and checking of medication
• Help monitor medicine stock levels, shelf organisation, and expiry dates
• Follow up with patients regarding script tracking reports and appointments when requested
• Assist with patient service calls and call centre script-related support
• Provide basic health-related information to individuals where appropriate
• Assist with scheme authorisations for chronic, HIV and AIDS, and oncology medication
• Report low stock, out-of-stock items, and stock errors to the dispensary manager
• Receive dispensary stock in line with company procedures
• Carry out any other duties assigned by the Dispensary Manager

Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric or Senior Certificate
• Pure Mathematics with at least 50%
• Life Science and/or Physical Science with an average of at least 50%
• Must be able to complete and pass the required proficiency process linked to SAPC learner basic assistant registration
• South African citizen
• Clear criminal and credit record
• Good written and spoken English and a second language
