Job Description

Unilever is inviting applications for an Unemployed Automated Packaging Learner opportunity based at the Maydon Wharf Factory in Durban, South Africa.

This is a 12-month full-time onsite learnership within the Supply Chain function. The programme is designed to train learners in automated packaging operations, production line support, safety standards, quality checks, cleaning activities, and basic mechanical maintenance awareness.

The successful candidate will gain practical workplace experience in a manufacturing environment while learning how to package products using automated packaging equipment according to operational, health, safety, and quality standards.

Job Purpose

The purpose of this programme is to train learners to package products using automated packaging equipment while maintaining health, safety, and quality standards.

Learners will also develop business understanding, mechanical maintenance awareness, and communication skills needed for line coordination and operation.

Responsibilities

• Perform general line operations according to operational plans.
• Carry out cleaning activities as required.
• Conduct pre-start-up checks to confirm equipment and area cleanliness.
• Ensure equipment and work areas are safe and ready for operation.
• Monitor product and packaging quality against required standards.
• Report faults and quality issues promptly.
• Detect process abnormalities and take immediate corrective action where required.
• Clean machinery according to manufacturer guidelines and site specifications.
• Prepare and check raw materials for production use.
• Maintain personal and team safety on the production line.
• Contribute to an eco-efficient and sustainable working environment.
• Comply with all learnership requirements.
• Complete assessments, logbooks, and assignments as required.

Requirements

• National Senior Certificate / Matric with Mathematics and Science.
• Alternatively, an N2, N3, or N4 Engineering qualification.
• Must be able to work onsite at Maydon Wharf Factory in Durban.
• Must already reside near the location or be able to relocate at own cost.
• Must be willing to participate in a full-time 12-month learnership.
• Must be committed to completing all training, assessments, logbooks, and assignments.

Additional Information

• Relocation assistance will not be provided.
• Successful candidates will receive a monthly stipend for the duration of the learnership.
• This is an office/site-based role at Maydon Wharf Factory, Durban.
