Foot Gear SA is recruiting an N6 Information Technology Intern for a practical workplace-experience opportunity in Marlboro, Sandton.

The programme is intended for an N6 graduate or student who has completed the theoretical component of an IT-related qualification and requires practical workplace exposure.

The intern will support daily ICT operations and gain experience with technical support, computer equipment, software, networks, systems administration and IT documentation.

Responsibilities

• Provide first-line technical support to employees.
• Assist users with basic hardware problems.
• Assist with software, printer, email and network-related issues.
• Set up desktop computers and laptops.
• Assist with creating and configuring user accounts.
• Set up printers and other ICT equipment.
• Install approved software under supervision.
• Configure and update approved software.
• Log IT support requests through the company’s helpdesk or ticketing process.
• Track support requests.
• Follow up on unresolved technical-support requests.
• Conduct basic network and connectivity checks.
• Escalate technical issues that cannot be resolved at first-line level.
• Assist with data backups.
• Support file-management activities.
• Assist with basic system-administration tasks.
• Maintain IT asset records.
• Update equipment registers.
• Maintain technical and administrative documentation.
• Assist with ICT projects.
• Support system rollouts.
• Assist with user training where required.
• Follow information-security and confidentiality policies.
• Follow responsible technology-use requirements.
• Perform general administrative duties within the IT department.
• Work over weekends and festive periods when required.

Requirements

• An N6 qualification in one of the following fields:
  • Information Technology.
  • Computer Science.
  • Information Systems.
  • Another related ICT field.
• The theoretical component of the qualification must be completed.
• Applicants must require practical workplace experience.
• Basic understanding of computer hardware.
• Basic understanding of computer software.
• Basic understanding of networking.
• Basic understanding of operating systems.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
