Flume Digital Marketing is hiring a Junior Data Analyst / Scientist in Johannesburg.

The Junior Data Analyst / Scientist will support data-driven decision-making within internal and client marketing teams.

The role involves analysing datasets to identify trends, measure performance, and provide actionable insights that inform marketing strategies.

The analyst will use statistical techniques, predictive modelling, and data visualisation tools to evaluate campaign effectiveness, optimise marketing spend, and improve customer targeting.

The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams, including marketing, sales, and product development, to align data insights with business goals.

Salary band: R15,000 - R28,000

Responsibilities

Data Collection and Analysis

• Assist in gathering, cleaning, and organising data from various sources to ensure accuracy and completeness for analysis.
• Perform basic data analysis using statistical methods under the guidance of senior team members.
• Help identify trends, patterns, and insights in data to answer business questions.
• Develop a foundational understanding of programming languages such as SQL, Python, or R for data manipulation.
• Support the team in troubleshooting data quality issues and discrepancies.
• Learn and apply data modelling techniques to prepare data for reporting.
• Attend internal meetings to understand data requirements and project goals.

Team Collaboration and Support

• Contribute to the development of basic reports and dashboards to visualise data findings.
• Work closely with senior data analysts to support their projects and larger analyses.
• Assist in documenting data processes, report logic, and key findings.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure data is used effectively and consistently across the organisation.
• Participate in team discussions to share observations and learn from feedback.
• Help maintain and update datasets and databases.

Reporting and Communication

• Assist in preparing regular and ad hoc reports to communicate key metrics to stakeholders.
• Create charts, graphs, and simple dashboards to present data findings clearly.
• Learn how to summarise data insights for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Present simple findings or updates to the team during internal meetings.
• Take detailed notes during client and stakeholder meetings to ensure data requirements are fully captured.

Foundational Knowledge and Learning

• Stay up to date with industry best practices, tools, and methodologies in data analysis.
• Expand knowledge of data visualisation tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
• Practise and improve proficiency in Microsoft Excel and SQL.
• Actively seek opportunities to learn new analytical techniques and statistical methods.
• Develop strong attention to detail to ensure data accuracy and integrity.

Requirements

• Degree, specialist certification, or diploma in one of the following fields:
  • BSc or related degree

• Minimum 6+ months of experience with a proven track record.
