Pick n Pay is inviting applications for the Baker Master Bake Programme in the Western Cape.
The Master Bake Learnership is a 12-month development programme designed to equip aspiring bakers with practical, hands-on bakery skills within a retail environment.
This programme is ideal for candidates who love baking and want to turn their passion into a career in the retail or wholesale bakery sector.
Learners will gain workplace experience, develop bakery skills, and work towards a recognised qualification while learning how to produce baked goods safely, consistently, and professionally.
What You Will Learn
- Produce a variety of breads, rolls, and basic baked goods.
- Prepare and bake standard confectionery items.
- Operate basic bakery equipment and tools safely.
- Identify baking ingredients and understand their functions.
- Measure, weigh, and prepare ingredients accurately.
- Mix, ferment, and handle dough correctly.
- Understand workplace health, safety, and food hygiene standards.
- Apply basic food safety principles in a bakery environment.
- Follow standard operating procedures and recipes.
- Apply quality control and consistency standards.
- Practice correct baking techniques, proofing, and baking methods.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in the bakery.
- Store ingredients and finished products correctly.
- Understand stock control and basic inventory handling.
- Reduce wastage and work efficiently.
- Communicate effectively within a bakery team.
- Deliver good customer service in a retail bakery environment.
- Understand basic workplace discipline and professionalism.
Responsibilities
- Participate fully in the 12-month bakery learnership programme.
- Attend workplace training and complete learning activities.
- Assist with bakery production and preparation tasks.
- Follow food safety, hygiene, and health and safety standards.
- Use bakery tools and equipment safely.
- Follow recipes, procedures, and bakery standards.
- Maintain a clean and organised bakery work area.
- Support customer service in the bakery department.
- Work as part of a bakery team.
- Complete programme requirements and assessments.
Requirements
- Must be a South African citizen.
- Must be between the ages of 18 and 34.
- Grade 12 certificate or National Certificate: Hospitality Level 4.
- Must not currently be registered for any other wholesale or retail learnership programme.
- Genuine passion for baking and food preparation.
- Ability to work early shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
- Must be physically fit and able to stand for extended periods.
- Good communication skills.
- Willingness to learn.
- Preference will be given to candidates residing in and around Atlantis, Western Cape.
