Swiss Re is offering a 12-month Risk Management Internship in Cape Town, Western Cape.

This internship gives graduates practical exposure to reinsurance risk management across multiple legal entities, including Swiss Re Europe, its UK Branch, and Swiss Re Africa.

The intern will support work across regulatory reporting, operational risk frameworks, Own Risk and Solvency Assessment processes, quarterly risk reporting, risk radar maintenance, thematic reviews, project coordination, and risk awareness initiatives.

Gross monthly salary: R9,000

Work model: Hybrid, with interns expected to be in the office at least 4 days per week.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to managing and monitoring the operational risk framework of Swiss Re Africa.
• Support the Risk Control Self-Assessment process.
• Assist with analysis and resolution of operational events and issues.
• Support mitigation actions related to operational risk.
• Document material changes to aspects of the risk profile.
• Contribute to Swiss Re Africa’s Own Risk and Solvency Assessment process.
• Support both quantitative and qualitative inputs into the ORSA process.
• Assist with completing regulatory requests such as questionnaires and surveys across Swiss Re Europe, Swiss Re UK, and Swiss Re Africa.
• Contribute to quarterly risk reports presented to Management Committees and Boards of Directors.
• Support the maintenance of the Risk Radar for Swiss Re UK and Swiss Re Africa.
• Provide support to thematic reviews performed by the EMEA Risk Management team.
• Support project management for specific initiatives.
• Promote a culture of risk awareness by engaging with staff and asking relevant questions about daily work activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following fields:
  • Actuarial Science
  • Risk Management
  • Insurance
  • Related quantitative discipline
• Strong numerical skills.

• Ability to present complex data clearly and concisely.
• Excellent written communication skills in English.

The intern will join an international Risk Management team with colleagues based across London, Zurich, Luxembourg, Munich, Bratislava, and Cape Town.
