Job Description
Standard Bank of South Africa is inviting applications for the Personal and Private Banking Software Engineer Graduate Programme in Johannesburg, Gauteng.
This programme is designed to attract graduates with strong technical knowledge who can grow into thought leaders and trusted advisors in software engineering. It combines theoretical learning with practical workplace exposure.
The successful candidate will gain experience in software design, coding, testing, debugging, documentation, continuous delivery, collaboration, system evaluation, and ongoing improvement of engineering practices.
Responsibilities
- Design, code, test, debug, and correct programs in software engineering environments within the continuous delivery pipeline.
- Provide support and maintenance of systems.
- Produce software specifications in accordance with technical requirements and software quality assurance standards.
- Adopt and apply suitable development methodologies and principles.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders to deliver value and meet targets.
- Construct, interpret, and execute end-to-end system and program tests.
- Verify the correct operation of completed systems and support the delivery of quality code.
- Develop, complete, and update required documentation, including development and testing guidelines and checklists.
- Participate in evaluation and impact analysis of major design options, new systems, and databases.
- Support data-driven decision-making by ensuring the validity and reliability of data.
- Engage with leads to receive feedback on completed work.
- Communicate concerns, issues, risks, and progress on work outputs.
- Seek opportunities to shorten development timelines and improve team skills.
- Contribute to cost efficiency of application development activities.
- Support knowledge sharing and training to help achieve business objectives.
- Continuously learn and apply new skills and technologies to improve software delivery and code quality.
- Share knowledge and solutions to support engineering objectives.
- Strive to reach mature levels on the Continuum model.

- Document all work and develop technical support documentation in line with agreed standards, methods, and tools.
Requirements
- Must be a South African citizen.
- Must be under 30 years of age.
- Must have no more than 2 years’ work experience.
- Must have a minimum average of 65% across all years of study.

Applicants must be in final year, completed, or currently completing in 2026 one of the following:
