Job Description

Standard Bank of South Africa is inviting applications for the Personal and Private Banking Security Engineer Graduate Programme in Johannesburg, Gauteng.

This programme is designed to attract technically strong graduates who can grow into thought leaders and trusted advisors in security engineering. It combines theoretical learning with practical workplace exposure.

The successful candidate will gain experience in information security standards, security operations, incident review, enterprise security tools, cloud security, automation, and AI-assisted security tools.

Responsibilities

• Apply and operate information security standards, controls, and practices defined by wider IT and Security functions.
• Support day-to-day security operations, including monitoring, analysis, and maintenance of security controls.
• Participate in the review of security incidents and operational issues.
• Help identify control gaps and contribute to remediation activities.
• Gain exposure to enterprise security tooling, platforms, and processes.
• Work alongside experienced security engineers and architects.
• Develop an understanding of common attack scenarios and the security controls used to mitigate risk.
• Assist in improving and optimising security processes.
• Support the automation of repeatable security tasks.
• Build foundational knowledge in cloud security concepts and controls.
• Gain exposure to securing cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure.
• Use AI-assisted security tools where appropriate to support monitoring, analysis, and operational decision-making.
• Develop an understanding of the limitations and governance considerations of AI in security.

Requirements

• Must be a South African citizen.
• Must be under 30 years of age.
• Must have no more than 2 years’ work experience.
• Must have a minimum average of 65% across all years of study.
