The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport is offering a National Youth Service Electrician opportunity in Gauteng.

This is an 8-month National Youth Service programme aimed at young people aged 18 to 35 who want to gain practical skills and work experience.

The department seeks to empower unemployed youth by providing workplace exposure, technical skills development, and practical training in the electrical field.

The Electrician Trainee will assist qualified electricians in the installation, maintenance, repair, and testing of electrical systems and equipment while gaining workplace experience and industry-relevant skills.

Salary: R3,500.00 per month

Responsibilities

• Assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment.
• Support electrical inspections and testing activities under supervision.
• Perform routine maintenance on electrical systems and infrastructure.
• Assist in identifying electrical faults.
• Assist with troubleshooting equipment problems.
• Ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained and stored.
• Follow occupational health and safety procedures and regulations at all times.
• Read and interpret basic electrical drawings, diagrams, and specifications.
• Assist with the maintenance of street lighting, traffic signals, and other transport-related electrical infrastructure where applicable.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.
• Attend all required training sessions, workshops, and development programmes.
• Perform other duties related to electrical maintenance as assigned by supervisors.

Requirements

• Must be unemployed.
• Grade 12 / Matric with Mathematics and Physical Science is preferred.
• N2–N6 Electrical Engineering qualification.
• Basic understanding of electrical principles and safety practices.
• Willingness to learn.

• Good communication skills.

• Candidates who previously participated in the NYS programme will not be considered.
