The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport is offering a National Youth Service Plumber opportunity in Gauteng.

This is an 8-month National Youth Service programme aimed at unemployed youth aged 18 to 35 who want to gain practical skills and work experience.

The department seeks to empower unemployed youth by providing practical workplace experience and skills development opportunities in the plumbing trade.

The Plumber Trainee will assist with the installation, maintenance, repair, and inspection of water supply and drainage systems within departmental facilities and infrastructure while gaining occupational skills and exposure.

Salary: R3,500.00 per month

Responsibilities

• Assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems.
• Assist with pipes, fittings, fixtures, and drainage systems.
• Support qualified artisans in diagnosing plumbing faults and leaks.
• Conduct routine inspections of water systems.
• Report defects.
• Assist with repairing burst pipes.
• Assist with repairing blocked drains.
• Assist with repairing leaking taps.
• Assist with repairing faulty plumbing equipment.
• Ensure tools, equipment, and materials are used and stored safely.
• Maintain clean and safe work areas according to Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
• Record maintenance activities.
• Complete required documentation.
• Assist with preventative maintenance programmes.
• Participate in workplace training.
• Participate in mentorship activities.
• Participate in skills development activities.
• Comply with departmental policies, procedures, and safety regulations.

Requirements

• Must be unemployed.
• Must be aged between 18 and 35 years.
• Grade 12 / Matric or NQF Level 4 qualification.
• Basic understanding of plumbing systems and tools.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English.
• Willingness to learn.
• Willingness to work in various locations within Gauteng.
• Candidates who previously participated in the NYS programme will not be considered.
