The Building Company is inviting applications for a retail learnership opportunity designed for unemployed South African candidates who want to gain practical workplace experience while working toward a nationally recognised qualification.

This programme combines classroom-based theoretical training with hands-on workplace learning in a retail environment. Learners will be exposed to essential store operations such as customer service, merchandising, stock replenishment, housekeeping, and point-of-sale support, while also developing workplace discipline, professionalism, and industry-relevant skills.

Responsibilities

• Attend all theoretical training sessions facilitated by the training provider
• Complete assessments, assignments, and Portfolio of Evidence (PoE) in line with W&RSETA requirements
• Assist customers and provide basic customer service in-store
• Support merchandising and stock replenishment activities
• Assist with point-of-sale (POS) operations where applicable
• Maintain store cleanliness and housekeeping standards
• Follow company policies, procedures, and standard operating practices
• Comply with workplace health and safety requirements
• Maintain accurate logbook entries and record workplace experience
• Demonstrate punctuality, professionalism, and consistent attendance
• Engage with supervisors, mentors, and facilitators to support learning progress

Requirements

• Must be unemployed and eligible for a W&RSETA learnership
• Minimum qualification: Grade 12
• Basic numeracy and literacy skills
• South African citizen
• Clear criminal record
• Willingness to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays where applicable
• Must not have completed an unemployed learnership before
