Job Description

The City of Johannesburg is inviting applications for the Human Settlements Internship opportunity within the Executive Director’s Office.

This internship forms part of the City’s work-based training intervention for qualifying students who require on-the-job exposure as part of their academic qualification or experiential training after completing their qualification.

The internship will run for a period not exceeding eighteen (18) months and is open to qualifying youth from Johannesburg communities who have not previously participated in an internship programme, unless the previous internship was not relevant to their course of study.

The successful candidate will gain practical exposure in the Human Settlements Department, supporting the Business Management Directorate with administrative work, research, analysis, planning support, monitoring and evaluation, risk management, regulatory compliance, human resources support, and strategic planning activities.

Responsibilities

• Render developmental-level professional administrative and support services in the Business Management Directorate.
• Support the planning and implementation of Human Settlements programmes in the region.
• Assist with general office administration duties.
• Perform administrative tasks such as data entry, filing, and mailings.
• Assist with event planning, setup, and execution.
• Support logistics, marketing, and operational activities.
• Assist with marketing and promotional efforts, including social media flyers and other materials.
• Provide customer service by responding to queries and helping resolve issues.
• Participate in the Directorate’s day-to-day operations.
• Support monitoring and evaluation activities.
• Assist with risk management and regulatory compliance tasks.
• Support administrative tasks related to long-, medium-, and short-range strategic planning.
• Contribute to the development of business plans, quarterly reports, and strategic planning concept notes.
• Conduct research and assist with compiling relevant information.

Requirements

• Matric / Grade 12 certificate.
• Degree in one of the following fields:
  • Business Management
  • Business Administration
  • Journalism
  • Media
  • Public Administration
  • Public Management
• Qualification should be at NQF Level 6 or NQF Level 7.
• No experience is required.
• Only City of Johannesburg residents will be considered.
• Must be a qualifying student from the Johannesburg community.
• Must not have previously participated in an internship programme, unless the previous internship was not relevant to the candidate’s course of study.
