Job Description

The Gauteng Department of Health is inviting applications for the Cleaner position at Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital. This role is suited to candidates who can support cleanliness, hygiene, and general upkeep in a hospital environment while following cleaning standards and departmental procedures.

The successful candidates will assist with cleaning wards, offices, corridors, kitchens, bathrooms, and equipment, while helping to maintain a safe and hygienic environment for staff and patients. This is a solid entry-level opportunity for someone who is reliable, can work under pressure, and is prepared to work shifts.

Responsibilities

• Clean wards, floors, spillages, offices, corridors, boardrooms, windows, doors, benches, and bed wheels
• Clean staff and patients’ lockers, fridges, toilets, and bathrooms
• Clean kitchens, curtains, and perform high dusting
• Ensure that the cleaning checklist is updated
• Collect and return food trolleys to the main kitchen
• Wash and maintain stock of kitchen utensils
• Replace toilet paper, hand towels, and refreshers
• Clean machines and equipment after use
• Refill water bottles
• Request cleaning materials when needed

Requirements

• Grade 10, AET Level 4, or equivalent qualification
• Must be able to read and write
• A minimum of 1 year of hospital experience will be an added advantage
• Must be able to work under pressure
• Must be willing to work shifts, including night shift and public holidays
• Knowledge of Labour Relations Processes
• Understanding of Batho Pele Principles in relation to the cleaning department
