Job Description

The Gauteng Department of Health is inviting applications for Laundry Worker positions at Pholosong Regional Hospital.

The successful candidates will support hospital laundry and linen services by collecting, sorting, labelling, washing, packing, loading, offloading, mending, and managing linen according to hygiene, safety, and hospital support service requirements.

This role is suited to candidates who are physically able to perform laundry-related duties, work as part of a team, follow instructions, and support clean and safe hospital operations.

Responsibilities

• Collect dirty linen bags from different sections of the hospital.
• Deliver soiled linen bags to the sorting area of the dirty linen section.
• Tie and label dirty linen bags correctly.
• Operate rinsing machines.
• Sort and pack linen in the linen bank.
• Load and offload clean linen from laundry trucks.
• Mend torn linen where required.
• Participate in linen inventory counting.
• Clean linen trolleys.
• Assist with other linen section duties when requested by supervisors.
• Follow instructions allocated by supervisors or management.
• Apply Occupational Health and Safety principles in daily duties.
• Apply Infection Prevention and Control principles and practices.
• Perform other duties allocated by the supervisor.
• Attend approved meetings and training sessions.
• Participate in continuous training and development programmes.
• Comply with the Performance Management and Development System, including contracting, quarterly reviews, and final assessment.

Requirements

• Grade 10 to Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
• Knowledge of laundry or linen services will be an added advantage.
• Sewing knowledge will be an added advantage.
• Good communication skills.
• Willingness to work in a team.
• Knowledge of Batho Pele principles.
• Must be able to perform physical work.
• Must be prepared to rotate within the scope of work.
• Must be prepared to work weekends and public holidays.
• Previous EPWP experience will be an added advantage.
