Job Description

Midvaal Local Municipality is inviting applications for EPWP General Worker opportunities within Public Safety, Roads, and Engineering Services in Meyerton.

There are 30 fixed-term EPWP positions available. The programme aims to reduce unemployment and alleviate poverty by creating work opportunities for unemployed residents within the Midvaal Local Municipality area.

The role is labour-intensive and involves general worker duties such as loading and off-loading materials, using tools and equipment, placing traffic signs, cleaning work areas, and supporting daily operational tasks in municipal roads, stormwater, water, purification, and sewer sections.

The fixed-term contract will run for a maximum of 24 months from the date of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Load and off-load materials, tools, and equipment used for daily duties.
• Assist with daily assigned labour-intensive tasks.
• Place traffic signs to warn road users about work being done near municipal roads.
• Clean in and around assigned work areas.
• Use manual labour equipment and tools.
• Operate various manual and electrical tools where required.
• Follow legal instructions from supervisors.
• Support productivity and smooth running of the assigned section.
• Perform general worker duties in roads, stormwater, water, purification, or sewer sections.
• Complete ad hoc tasks and related duties requested by supervisors or management.
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Perform physically demanding work where required.

Requirements

• Grade 10.
• Must be bilingual and at least understand English.
• Must reside within the jurisdiction of Midvaal Local Municipality.
• Must be unemployed, or serving the last three months of a contracted term.
• Must have between 0 and 1 year of experience in general worker, labourer, or labour-intensive duties.
• Must be able to follow and execute instructions.
• Must be in excellent physical health.
• Must have basic skills and understanding of the area of work.
• Must be able to perform physically demanding duties.
• Must meet the operational requirements of the post.
• Must be hard-working and self-disciplined.
• Must clearly indicate the section they are interested in when applying.
• Youth between the ages of 18 and 35 may receive preference.
• Due to operational requirements, the advert states that these EPWP roles are available for male candidates only.

Available Sections

• Roads and Storm Water Section: 20 positions.
• Engineering Services: 10 positions.
• Engineering Services may include Water, Purification, and Sewer Sections.
