Ampath Laboratories is inviting applications for a General Assistant (Messenger) position on a 5-month contract at Parkview, Pretoria East.

The successful candidate will support the smooth running of the hospital environment by delivering documents, specimens, and essential items safely, accurately, and on time across wards, departments, and the Care Centre.

This role also includes supporting cleanliness and hygiene where required, while maintaining professional service, teamwork, reliability, and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Deliver documents, specimens, and essential items safely and on time.
• Transport items across wards, departments, and the Care Centre.
• Follow established processes and workplace protocols.
• Confirm deliveries and respond to enquiries professionally.
• Handle sensitive items with care, discretion, and confidentiality.
• Support a clean and hygienic working environment where required.
• Assist with routine cleaning tasks depending on site requirements.
• Plan daily tasks to ensure work is completed efficiently.
• Adjust to changing priorities during the workday.
• Work independently and support team members when required.
• Maintain professional conduct when interacting with employees, patients, and visitors.
• Support clinical and operational teams by ensuring smooth movement of items and documents.

Requirements

• Grade 12 qualification.
• Ability to follow processes and instructions.
• Ability to communicate clearly and professionally.
• Must be dependable, courteous, and mindful when handling sensitive items.
• Experience in a healthcare environment or similar setting will be an advantage.
• Basic understanding of safety protocols.
• Familiarity with routine cleaning practices and safe handling may be required depending on the site.
