Job Description
The Office of the Chief Justice is inviting applications for a Typist position at the Western Cape Division of the High Court in Cape Town.
The successful candidate will provide typing and administrative support within the court environment. The role includes typing court orders, court documents, reports, appeals, memorandums, minutes, circulars, notices, witness statements, taxing master reports, court rolls, and other legal documents.
This opportunity is suitable for candidates with Grade 12 or an equivalent qualification recognised by SAQA who are computer literate, accurate, organised, and able to type at least 35 words per minute.

Responsibilities
- Type court orders, court documents, and reports.
- Type appeals, reviews, memorandums, reports, minutes, and circulars.
- Type notices of set down.
- Type witness statements and taxing master reports.
- Type Rule 6(12) orders and make them available according to the rule.
- Type notices and other court-related documents.
- Sort and distribute incoming and outgoing files.
- Compile term rolls, weekly rolls, and unopposed or opposed motion rolls.
- Maintain registers.
- Draft term rolls for each court term in line with Gazetted terms.
- Type supplementary rolls.
- Compile and submit relevant orders to relevant stakeholders.
- Maintain accuracy and attention to detail when preparing legal documents.
- Support the smooth administration of court typing services.
Requirements
- Grade 12 or equivalent qualification recognised by SAQA.
- No experience required.
- Legal or court experience will be an advantage.
- Shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a pre-entry practical exercise.
- Knowledge of legal terminology.
- Knowledge of court procedures, court rules, and the court environment.
- Knowledge of counter services.
- Knowledge of filing systems.
- Understanding of legislation governing the Public Service, including Batho Pele and Public Service Regulations.
- Knowledge of Batho Pele Principles.
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office.
- Typing speed of 35 words per minute.
- Good telephone etiquette.
- Ability to work under pressure.
