Job Description

The City of Johannesburg is inviting applications for EPWP Jozi Ihlomile Educators short-term contract positions.

These opportunities fall under the Department of Health, within the Public Health Branch.

The successful candidates will educate community members through door-to-door education and campaigns in priority wards.

The role focuses on health and social education related to HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Sexually Transmitted Infections, substance abuse, stigma, gender-based violence and other related health and social matters.

Successful candidates will also refer community members in need to relevant local services for poverty relief, social support and healthcare according to their needs.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Grade 12 / NQF Level 4.
• Knowledge of HIV/AIDS.
• Knowledge of Tuberculosis.
• Knowledge of Sexually Transmitted Diseases / Infections.
• Knowledge of substance abuse.
• Knowledge of stigma and related health and social matters.
• Knowledge of gender-based violence.
• Knowledge of City processes, best practices, policies and procedures on health and social issues.
• Numeric skills.
• Good writing skills.
• Good verbal communication skills.
• Ability to use electronic devices.
• Ability to send text messages.
• Ability to send emails.
• Ability to use the internet.
• Must be youth between the ages of 18 and 35.
• Must reside in one of the listed wards.
• Must provide proof of residence in the listed ward.
• Must submit a note from the ward councillor or an affidavit signed by an authorised body.
• Must submit an affidavit confirming no criminal record.

Primary Function

The primary function of the EPWP Jozi Ihlomile Educator is to educate community members during door-to-door education and campaigns in priority wards.

The role includes educating the community about:

• HIV/AIDS
• Tuberculosis
• Sexually Transmitted Diseases / Infections
• Substance abuse
• Stigma
• Gender-based violence
• Other health and social matters

The Educator must also refer people in need to relevant local services for:

• Poverty relief
• Social support
• Healthcare support
