Job Description
Ericsson is inviting applications for the Telecommunication Network Operations Learnership Programme.
This 12-month learnership gives motivated young people an opportunity to gain hands-on practical experience in the telecommunications industry while completing the Telecommunication Network Operations Learnership Programme, SAQA ID 59057, NQF Level 4.
Learners will gain exposure to telecommunications tower work, network operations, cable installation, antenna installation, health and safety procedures, maintenance, audits, emergency repairs, and technical field operations.
The programme starts on 1 June 2026 and ends on 31 May 2027.
Responsibilities
- Participate in the 12-month Telecommunication Network Operations Learnership Programme.
- Climb ladders and towers safely under supervision.
- Complete work duties at elevated heights safely and efficiently.
- Assist with erecting telecommunication tower components using cables, ropes, pulleys, and related equipment.
- Assist with the installation of cables, antennas, microwave dishes, and other communication equipment.
- Install pinwheels, structural steel, cable trays, conduits, antenna mounts, transmission lines, and related equipment.
- Remove, install, and repair aerial telecommunication transmission and distribution antennas.
- Remove, install, and repair telecommunication equipment and associated hardware.
- Work with different types and sizes of telecommunication cables and lines, including fibre optic, coaxial, and DC power cables.
- Follow all safety practices and guidelines.
- Perform audits, tests, upgrades, and maintenance when required.
- Assist with repairs, emergency repairs, and service restoration when required.
- Read and understand work orders and plans.
- Assist the team leader with assigned duties.
- Apply Health and Safety rules at work.
- Use winches and capstan equipment to move loads when required.
- Follow Ericsson and customer quality requirements without deviation.
- Complete Ericsson’s tower training programme at the required level.
- Perform other duties assigned by the team leader.
- Work outside normal business hours, including shifts, nights, and weekends, if required.
Requirements
- Matric / National Senior Certificate, preferably technical.
- TVET students with IT or ICT certification will be considered.
- Relevant courses may include low voltage, telecommunications, digital electronics, IT, ICT, or networking.
- University of Technology students with ICT or Networking qualifications may be considered.
- Effective written and oral communication skills in English.
