Job Description

The Department of Correctional Services is inviting applications for the Security Officer position at Mangaung Maximum Correctional Centre.

This is an entry-level opportunity under the Correctional Service Act for candidates who have completed the Correctional Science Learnership or Basic Training and want to build a career in correctional services security.

The successful candidate will support access control, inmate movement, guarding duties, inspections, control room operations, and the safe and secure functioning of the correctional centre.

Responsibilities

• Perform access control at the correctional centre and between areas within the correctional centre.
• Control the movement of inmates both internally and externally.
• Guard inmates in correctional centres and external public institutions.
• Perform physical security inspections.
• Control stores and security equipment.
• Manage the security control room.
• Ensure rehabilitation of offenders through correction and human development in a secure, safe, and humane detention facility.

Requirements

• Matric / Grade 12.
• Successful completion of the Correctional Science Learnership / Basic Training.
• No previous experience is required for appointment at CB1-1 level.
