Job Description
The Department of Correctional Services is inviting applications for the Case Officer position at Mangaung Maximum Correctional Centre.
This is an entry-level opportunity under the Correctional Service Act for candidates who have completed the Correctional Science Learnership or Basic Training and want to build a career in correctional services case administration.
The successful candidate will support sentence plan administration, case documentation, profile reporting, committee referrals, verification of offender information, records control, and safe custody processes within the correctional environment.
Responsibilities
- Control sentence plans.
- Update sentence plans with due consideration to the recommendations of the CMC and the feedback of responsible functionaries.
- Complete and process G331 and G356 forms.
- Update the computer system according to decisions and recommendations of the CMC.
- Refer written decisions and recommendations of the committee to the correct office or functionary.
- Ensure referrals of cases and enquiries by the CMC occur under the signature of the chairperson and that feedback is received.
- Control profile reports (G326).
- Compile profile reports and ensure they are correctly completed.
- Ensure all relevant information has been provided in profile reports.
- Refer profile reports to the Secretary of the CMC.
- Maintain the profile register.
- Record on the computer the receipt, forwarding, and return of recommendations relating to parole and correctional supervision on G326 forms.
- Maintain documentation control.
- Keep the control page G325 form up to date in respect of recommendations and decisions made by the CMC.
- Open, close, and address mail.
- File documents.
- Receive and forward documents from the CMC.
- Care for classified documents.
- Deal with representations.
- Verify information provided on offenders.
- Check that calculations regarding minimum detention periods and release dates are correct.
- Check that all relevant documentation is attached to submissions to the Head of the Correctional Centre.
- Ensure confidentiality of correspondence between the offender and the CMC.
- Check that original documentation is sent to the Head of the Correctional Centre.
- Maintain safe custody.
- Search venues and offenders.
- Ensure offenders do not move around uncontrolled.
- Ensure the number of offenders received and returned to units corresponds.
- Ensure equipment is not abused by offenders.
Requirements
- Matric / Grade 12.
- Successful completion of the Correctional Science Learnership / Basic Training.
- No previous experience is required for appointment at CB1-1 level.
