Job Description
The Office of the Chief Justice is inviting applications for an Administration Clerk (DCRS) position at the Land Court in Durban.
This opportunity is suitable for candidates with a Grade 12 certificate.
No experience is required.
The successful candidate will support Digital Court Recording Services by operating court recording equipment, checking the readiness of court recording systems, annotating court proceedings, managing recordings, downloading recordings, maintaining backups and supporting court-related administrative tasks.
Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 12 certificate.
- No experience required.
- Must undertake a pre-entry practical exercise as part of the assessment method.
- Must undergo a pre-entry practical exercise to determine suitability based on the post’s technical and generic requirements.

Duties
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Checking the readiness of court recording systems.
- Testing court recording systems.
- Checking the CRT machine.
- Checking court recording machines.
- Reporting faults detected on machines.
- Capturing cases set down on the CRT machine.
- Capturing cases set down on the court book.
- Recording court proceedings.
- Annotating all court proceedings according to the level of court.
- Adding parties’ details according to court appearance.
- Adding related annotations according to case type in session.
- Pausing court recordings during court session breaks.
- Resuming court recordings during court session breaks.
- Stopping recordings at the end of the day.
- Setting up test recordings.
- Operating recording equipment to testify in the Children’s Court.
- Annotating all postponed cases.
- Conducting regular backups of data.
- Transferring court recordings at the end of the week.
- Using headphones to monitor accurate recording of court proceedings.
- Attending to requests for playback to verify court orders.
- Downloading recordings to CD, USB or other required storage.
- Retrieving and downloading cases on request.
- Playing back court recordings to detect discrepancies.
- Informing the Judge immediately when discrepancies are detected.
- Filing audio CDs in the strong room.
- Filing audio CDs in the Court Recording Technology office.
- Submitting work performed at the circuit court immediately upon arrival.
- Updating backups of audio CDs.
- Downloading CDs for transcription for the running record.
- Attending to queries relating to court recordings.
- Arranging transcription services for court recordings.
