Job Description

MSC is inviting unemployed youth to apply for its Learnership Programme based in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape.

This fixed-term learnership gives young people an opportunity to gain theoretical and practical experience in the maritime industry. The programme is structured into three learning phases, and each phase runs for 12 months.

Learners will gain exposure to international trade, freight forwarding, customs compliance, and shipping. MSC will fully subsidise the cost of studies and provide a monthly stipend. Learners may also qualify for an annual bonus based on meeting learnership requirements such as attendance, assessments, conduct, and performance.

At the end of each phase, learners will receive a nationally recognised qualification, including experiential training.

Programme Structure

The MSC Learnership Programme is structured into three phases:

Phase 1

• National Certificate in International Trade.
• Duration: 12 months.

Phase 2

• National Certificate in Freight Forwarding and Customs Compliance.
• Duration: 12 months.

Phase 3

• Further Education and Training Certificate in Shipping.
• Duration: 12 months.

All three phases must be completed one after the other and at the same location.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the full MSC Learnership Programme.
• Attend theoretical learning sessions.

• Maintain good attendance throughout the programme.
• Follow MSC workplace rules, policies, and conduct requirements.
• Build knowledge of the maritime industry.

• Use Microsoft Office tools for learning and workplace tasks.
• Travel to and from MSC operating sites at own cost using the stipend provided.
• Demonstrate commitment, reliability, and professionalism during the programme.

Requirements

• Completed Matric or Matric equivalent qualification.
• Minimum of 60% for Mathematical Literacy or 50% for Mathematics.
• Must be computer literate.
• Must be able to use Microsoft Office programmes such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Must be below the age of 25.
• Must be able to travel to and from MSC operating sites at own cost.
• Previous work experience is required.
• Must be hardworking and reliable.
• Must be methodical.
• Must have good communication skills.
• Must be committed to completing all three phases of the programme.
