Job Description

The Department of Agriculture is inviting applications for the Farm Aid position in Pretoria, Gauteng.

This opportunity falls under the Directorate: Genetics Resources and is based at Roodeplaat: Variety Control. The role is suited to a candidate who can assist with crop production, farm upkeep, and general support activities in an agricultural environment.

The successful candidate will support irrigation, soil preparation, crop care, harvesting, equipment maintenance, and infrastructure maintenance on the farm.

Responsibilities

• Perform general crop production activities.
• Irrigate crops.
• Assist with soil cultivation and preparation, including cleaning and hoeing.
• Apply chemical crop protection and operate a knapsack sprayer.
• Reap, grade, weigh, pack, and store farm produce.
• Tend to crops, orchards, and vineyards, including pruning and weeding.
• Clean facilities.
• Dispose of farm waste material.
• Maintain equipment through cleaning, oiling, sharpening, and related tasks.
• Assist with firefighting and fire prevention.
• Load and off-load farm supplies.
• Maintain fences, shade houses, and greenhouses.
• Maintain irrigation and water supply systems.

Requirements

• NQF Level 1 or 2 qualification.
• ABET Level 2 or 3 certificate or equivalent.
• No experience required.
