Job Description
Lancet Laboratories is inviting applications for Admin Clerk / Receptionist vacancies across selected branches.
The successful candidate will be responsible for receiving, capturing, sorting, and distributing laboratory samples to ensure that correct information is recorded and samples are processed efficiently according to service objectives.
The role also includes reception duties, customer service, sample registration, report handling, administrative support, stock monitoring, query resolution, and communication with medical professionals, patients, clients, and internal teams.
This opportunity is suitable for candidates with Grade 12 or an equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification, computer literacy, strong administrative ability, customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a pressured medical pathology environment.
Responsibilities
- Receive, capture, sort, and distribute laboratory samples.
- Administer sample sorting and distribution according to standard operating procedures.
- Ensure specimens are channelled correctly and prioritised for the relevant laboratories or sites.
- Process sample registration and logging.
- Handle sample-related queries according to standard operating procedures.
- Dispatch specimens for processing according to prescribed procedures.
- Monitor progress and filing of reports.
- Handle report delivery and related queries within required turnaround times.
- Perform hospital rounds to distribute reports and collect submitted samples for processing.
- Handle and refer administrative queries and customer complaints.
- Track sample delivery by couriers to ensure specimens are received by the correct laboratory.
- Investigate bottlenecks in pre-analytical laboratory processes.
- Support timely resolution of process challenges.
- Maintain basic housekeeping in the working area.
- Clean and prepare equipment according to standard operating procedures.
- Monitor stock levels and order additional stock when required.
- Ensure required materials are available at all times.
- Deliver stock to doctors’ rooms where required.
- Manage reception area duties.
- Provide relevant information and direct clients to the correct departments.
- Receive cash from patients and ensure banking is done according to procedures.
- Report incidents and log customer complaints.
- Read documents and action tasks on the laboratory information management system.
- Prepare and scan patient forms onto the laboratory scanning system.
- Resolve scanning incomplete items according to standard operating procedures.
- Follow Lancet uniform protocols.
Requirements
- Grade 12 or relevant NQF Level 4 qualification.
- BSc Degree will be advantageous.
- 0–1 years’ relevant working experience.
- Computer literacy.
- Knowledge of laboratory information systems.
