About the Opportunity
The Department of Health is inviting applications for two Physiotherapist posts.
These posts are based in the Physiotherapy Department at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital. The successful candidates will assess, plan and treat patients referred for physiotherapy, support quality improvement, assist with equipment and stock management, and provide mentorship to community service therapists and students.

- Grade 1: R413 121 per annum
- Grade 2: R482 499 per annum
- Grade 3: R564 822 per annum
Benefits may include a 13th cheque, optional medical aid and housing allowance, subject to the employee meeting the prescribed requirements.
Responsibilities
- Assess, plan and treat patients referred for physiotherapy.
- Coordinate and provide high-quality, up-to-date physiotherapy services.
- Participate in quality improvement programmes.
- Participate in skills development programmes.
- Assist in safeguarding and evaluating the management of equipment and infrastructure.
- Assist with stock control management.
- Contribute towards planning, budgeting and procurement processes.
- Support the supervisor with transformative changes and additional supervisory tasks.
- Participate in EPMDS processes.
- Participate in clinical audits.
- Participate in document audits.
- Maintain up-to-date clinical records.
- Maintain daily statistics.
- Participate in all departmental committees.
- Work a 40-hour week.
- Perform weekend overtime and standby duties on a rotational basis.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to community service therapists.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to 4th year Physiotherapy students.
Minimum Requirements
- National Senior Certificate
- Bachelor’s Degree in Physiotherapy
- Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Physiotherapist, Independent Practitioner
- Current annual registration with the HPCSA as a Physiotherapist
Experience Requirements
Grade 1
- No experience after registration with the HPCSA as a Physiotherapist for RSA-qualified employees who performed Community Service as required in South Africa.
- One year relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as a Physiotherapist for foreign-qualified employees who are not required to perform Community Service in South Africa.
Grade 2
- Minimum of 10 years relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as a Physiotherapist for RSA-qualified employees who performed Community Service as required in South Africa.
- Minimum of 11 years relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA in Physiotherapy for foreign-qualified employees who are not required to perform Community Service in South Africa.
Grade 3
- Minimum of 20 years relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as a Physiotherapist for RSA-qualified employees who performed Community Service as required in South Africa.
- Minimum of 21 years relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA in Physiotherapy for foreign-qualified employees who are not required to perform Community Service in South Africa.
Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
- Expertise in Critical Care areas
- Expertise in specialised rehabilitative services
- Ability to evaluate and diagnose patients
- Skilled use of treatment modalities and equipment
- Sound knowledge of relevant legislation guiding clinical healthcare in the public sector
- Knowledge of the Patients’ Rights Charter
